Bangkok

Suvarnabhumi Airport puts you at the centre of Southeast Asia, in a city that runs on temples, river traffic and some of the best street food anywhere.

About the city

Bangkok rewards wandering. The Grand Palace and Wat Pho anchor the old royal quarter, Wat Arun catches the light across the river, and the Chao Phraya works as a public transport network in its own right — express boats are often faster than the road. After dark the city belongs to its markets and its food stalls, where a full meal costs less than a coffee elsewhere.

It is also the most convenient jumping-off point in the region: the southern islands, Chiang Mai, and the rest of mainland Southeast Asia are all short hops away. November to February is the cool, dry season.

Good to know

  • The Airport Rail Link connects Suvarnabhumi to the city's Skytrain and metro network.
  • Many nationalities enter Thailand visa-free for short stays — confirm your own entitlement.
  • Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter temples, including the Grand Palace.
