About the city
Delhi is really two cities layered on top of each other. Old Delhi is Mughal: the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk, where the lanes narrow until only a rickshaw fits. New Delhi is imperial and green, laid out in wide boulevards around India Gate. Between them stand Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar, both World Heritage sites, and a food culture that changes street by street.
Delhi is also the practical gateway to northern India — Agra and the Taj Mahal are a short journey away, as are Jaipur and the Himalayan foothills. October to March is the pleasant season.
